Mam was a fanatical knitter.She could produce anything with a pair of knitting needles ! Any garment, any pattern. I was given loads of compliments from strangers when they saw my two girls dressed in "Nana knitted" clothes.The skirts and cardigan sets complete with loopy hats were the favourite.Everybody wanted one ! All the family had hand-knitted woollens even down to the lovely warm socks Dad and the lads went fishing in ! Then there was the aroma of bread and cakes the house was filled with every Saturday. Family and friends from around the doors and even farther afield, would gather to "sample" her wares with a nice cup of tea !Stottie cakes, bread buns and hot cross buns at Easter.Coconut cakes, sponges,and crispy,crunchy biscuits of different varieties. Because fresh fish was in plentiful supply her fish cakes were to die for and fresh caught and cooked "Fish + Chips",nothing better.
